Tips and Tricks for Moving Efficiently
One great tip for your move is making a packing list. If you have a packing list of each box, it will keep more organized, and make unpacking much easier, and less time consuming. This packing list can be as detailed or as general as you want or have time for. You can write a simple description of what each box has, or you can write each item you place inside. This is up to you. You’ll always want to place delicate hardwares like decorative chandeliers in one area and hardwares that can’t really be hurt in another area. For example, if you have folding chairs, it’s pretty hard to harm these. The better you sort these out, the less likely it is something will get damaged.
One great thing about this is that you are much less likely to forget or lose something in your move. Chances are you will take up as least several days, and probably weeks packing your belongings, this will be a quick reference to make sure that you know what you have already packed. Another important thing to do, to keep from being overwhelmed is packing one area at a time. Begin with the items that you will not need, or can do with out first. Work your way up to things like kitchen items that you use on a daily basis. One of the quickest yet most important tips you should use is numbering your boxes.
This will help you to know if you lose a box, and if you have a copy of your packing list, you will know exactly what you are missing. This is such a useful moving tactic, and it works well with the idea of using a packing list. Also, make sure you label each box with which room it should be placed in when you bring it to your new home. For example, formal mirror furniture would go in the living room and be marked as such. This will save time for you moving in. Make sure to also pack a couple of boxes or bags with the items that you will need immediately.
Think about your first day or two in your new home. You do not want to have to dig through a bunch of items to get to the things you will need right away. Pack items like a change or two of clothes, sleepwear, snacks, paper plates, toothbrush and toothpaste, shampoo (conditioner), hand soap, and anything else you know you will need. You may also want to consider keeping your sleeping bag, and pillow separate to use the first night. Depending on how you pack, you may want to wash your bedding before you use it, so this will give you a little bit of time. Also, do not forget that you may want to wipe down a few walls, scrub out the shower or tub, and do other cleaning before you unpack.
This may be something you will want to do before you begin cluttering up your new home with all of your boxes and furniture, so make sure you have what you need to do any cleaning you may decide to do. Make sure these are the most easily accessible items, so they will be easy to take out first when you get to your new home.
Unpacking tips
When you begin moving your boxes and other items into your home, a very helpful thing to do to cut down on time is placing the boxes and other items in the room or area they will be unpacked in. Just stack them in a corner or along the wall of the room to keep as much open space as possible. This will save you time later sorting through a mound of boxes, and make it easier to unpack each area individually. The first items you will unpack are the items you packed specifically for immediate use. Once this is completed, which should not take much time at all, you can begin working on one space at a time, just as you did when you packed.
This is just a few ideas to get you started Take advantage of the tips listed and you will find that your moving experience will go much more smoothly. Moving is always tough, but if you stay focused and stay organized it does not have to be a nightmare. Hopefully this will motivate, and keep you from being overwhelmed. Just stay on task, and take it one step at a time.
